Keeping Artane Clean Together – Our Community Litter Picks
Artane Tidy Group meets every two weeks at 11am on the green area opposite Artane Castle for a one-hour community litter pick. This regular effort brings volunteers together with a shared goal keeping local spaces clean, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone.
The group is currently focusing on main roads such as Skelly’s Lane, Kilmore Road, Ardlea Road and the Malahide Road. By concentrating on these busy routes, volunteers can make a visible impact in areas that experience high footfall and traffic.
While Artane Tidy Group does not typically carry out litter picks within housing estates, recognising the fantastic work already being done by local resident groups, the team is very keen to strengthen relationships and collaborate more closely with these communities in the future.
Support from Dublin City Council plays an important role in making these litter picks possible. The council provides equipment to help volunteers complete their one-hour clean-up efficiently. Once the litter pick is finished, the group logs a request through the Dublin Citizen Hub so that collected waste can be properly removed.
Just as important as the clean-up itself is the social aspect of volunteering. After each litter pick, volunteers often head to Graham O’Sullivan’s coffee shop for a well-earned chat and a cup of coffee. These informal moments help build friendships, strengthen community connections, and make volunteering a fun and rewarding experience.
Through simple, consistent actions and a strong sense of community Artane Tidy Group is helping to build local pride and keep Artane looking its best.
